Indian Armed Forces a symbol of national unity: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday underscored the Indian Armed Forces' role as a symbol of national unity, saying the institution's embrace of diversity and the rising presence of women personnel demonstrate India's commitment to equality and enduring cultural values.
Addressing personnel at the Eastern Air Command headquarters here, Singh said the Defence forces represent an institution where people from diverse backgrounds come together in the service of the nation, fostering mutual respect and a shared sense of purpose.
"The Defence forces are a symbol of national unity. They embody a culture in which diverse ideas flourish, cherished values endure, and mutual respect takes root naturally," he said.
Highlighting the increasing participation of women in the military, the Defence minister said their expanding role reflects not merely institutional progress but also the country's deeply rooted ethos.
"The growing role of women in the Defence forces represents more than just institutional advancement. It is a testament to the cultural values for which India is known around the world. It demonstrates that even as we embrace modernity, our culture remains firmly grounded in its core principles," Singh said.
He said the armed forces continue to set an example of inclusivity, discipline and dedication, inspiring confidence among citizens while strengthening the country's unity and security.
Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, and other senior Indian Air Force officers were present on the occasion.
The Defence minister is also scheduled to celebrate the International Day of Yoga with troops at the Eastern Air Command headquarters in Shillong on Sunday.
