First indigenous overhaul of ejection seat for Navy's MiG-29K fighter aircraft completed

In a boost for Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), the IAF Base Repair Depot, Nashik has successfully completed the indigenous overhaul of the first ejection seat for the Indian Navy's MiG-29K fighter aircraft, a defence release said on Wednesday.

In a boost for Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), the IAF Base Repair Depot, Nashik has successfully completed the indigenous overhaul of the first ejection seat for the Indian Navy's MiG-29K fighter aircraft, a defence release said on Wednesday.

Ejection seats of MiG-29K aircraft were till now being sent to Russia for overhaul, officials said.

Base Repair Depot (BRD) Nashik undertakes major overhauls of MiG-29 and Su-30 MKI. By leveraging its experience with the Su-30 MKI ejection seat, the BRD formulated the overhaul technology for the ejection seat of MiG-29 K, which was approved by RCMA, the airworthiness certification agency, the release said.

The overhauled ejection seat was handed over to the Navy at Nashik on May 13 in the presence of Air Marshal Yalla Umesh and Vice Admiral Rahul Vilas Gokhale.
