US Army awards $65 mln M-TADS/PNVS modernisation contract to Lockheed
Modernised Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system will make Apache a more lethal and survivable aircraft on the battlefield and into the future.

ORLANDO (BNS): Lockheed Martin has received a four year fixed price contract from US Army to continue modernisation of the Apache helicopter’s Modernised Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) system.
The $65 million contract also includes the $22 million base, plus options.
With the modifications M-TADS/PNVS will remain the world’s most advanced electro-optical precision engagement system for attack helicopters.
“The Modernised DSA replaces vintage 30-year-old hardware – addressing obsolescence, reliability and capability gaps. These improvements will make the Apache a more lethal and survivable aircraft on the battlefield well into the future,” US Army Apache Sensors Product Manager Lt. Col. John Vannoy said.
Under the contract, Lockheed will also upgrade the multi-mode laser rangefinder/designator, visible color sensor, laser spot tracker, inertial measurement unit, modernised day sensor structure assembly and a potential for future laser pointer marker compatibility.
This modification resolves obsolescence issues and supports improvements in sustainability and maintainability, enabling two-level maintenance (compatible with M-TADS/PNVS Performance Based Logistics).
US Army has equipped the M-TADS/PNVS system in Apache helicopter since 2005.
It also provides advanced pilot-age and targeting capability when conducting day, night and adverse-weather missions.
