Iran upgrades missile defence system 'Mersad'
"The Mersad missile system is a highly important system and the range of its new generation will be more than the range of its current generation possessed by the Iranian Armed Forces," Fars News Agency quoted Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as saying on Sunday.
The new improved missile range is capable of destroying advanced airplanes in low and mid altitudes.
Iran had launched its first indigenously built mid-range missile defence system 'Mersad' in April, the report said.
The missile defence system is equipped with different target tracing and tracking radars, soft and hardware networks, launch pads for Shahin missiles with a command and control center.
Mersad is also resistant to electronic warfare and can be used as part of a network of radar and air defence systems, it said.
