PENTAGON (BNS): The refurbished aircraft carrier USS Enterprise has rejoined the US Navy after completing exhaustive sea trials in the Atlantic Ocean.

The US Navy's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN 65) completed sea trials on April 19, 2010 during which all major systems on board the ship were tested, the US Navy said in a statement.

The warship, the oldest vessel in active service with the US Navy, spent over two years at Northrop Grumman's Newport News shipyard for modernisation.

Enterprise is scheduled to begin its training cycle, which will culminate with the ship executing its 21st deployment. The aircraft carrier's first step is to pass flight deck certification so that an air wing can embark the ship and launch aircraft, the Navy statement said.
