Armies of India, Cambodia to conduct 2-week military exercise

The second edition of ‘Exercise CINBAX’ will be held in Cambodia's Kampong Speu province.

Armies of India and Cambodia will carry out a two-week military exercise beginning Monday in line with deepening bilateral defence and military ties between the two nations.

The second edition of Exercise CINBAX will be held in Cambodia's Kampong Speu province.

The exercise holds significance as it is taking place against the backdrop of the evolving global security challenges, the Defence Ministry said on Sunday.

The Indian Army contingent comprises 120 personnel, majorly from a Battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. The Cambodian contingent comprises 160 personnel from the Royal Cambodian Army.

"The joint exercise will be aligned with the current dynamics of counter-terrorism operations encountered by the peacekeeping forces during the UN peace keeping operation," the Ministry said.

"This aim will be achieved through various practical and comprehensive discussions as well as tactical exercises, leading to a comprehensive validation exercise," it added.

It said special skill training, including that of drone operations, mortar and sniper tactics, will be practised as part of the exercise.

"The primary objective is to enhance interoperability, coordination and operational synergy between the contingents of both nations," the Defence Ministry said in a release.

It said the exercise will not only showcase the capability of both the nations towards maintaining global peace, but will also facilitate in exchanging best practices and the sharing of operational experiences.

"The joint military exercise CINBAX-II reflects the growing defence co-operation between India and Cambodia and will further enhance bilateral relations between the two nations, while contributing towards mutual understanding in handling regional security challenges," the Ministry said.
