US Army to receive Battlefield Anti-Intrusion System from L-3

NEW YORK (BNS): US Army has awarded $92.4 million worth contract to the L-3 Communications for the procurement of Battlefield Anti-Intrusion System (BAIS).

The BAIS is a compact, sensor-based early warning system that is used by small tactical units for force protection and situational awareness.

The BAIS can be used either as a tactical stand-alone system or as a supplemental device for other security missions. To date, the US Army has fielded approximately 1800 out of a total requirement of approximately 8200 BAIS systems.

"We are honoured to continue providing the US Army with reliable, lightweight unattended ground sensor products used in both combat and logistics operations," Val Snyder, president of L-3 Communication Systems-East (CS-East) which received the contract said in a L-3 news release.

According to the contract, the company will be involved in fabrication, first article testing and delivery of production systems for the BAIS programme and will also provide associated programme management and logistics services, such as training, publications and other materials necessary to field and maintain the system.

L-3 Communication Systems-East designs, develops, produces and integrates communication systems and encryption solutions for space, ground, air and maritime operations. The company is part of the L-3 Communication Systems Group.
