Topol-M ballistic missiles

MOSCOW (BNS): Russia is all set to advance its missile system by developing a new land-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system by 2013, a media report said on Thursday.

Russian scientists will design the new ICBM, which will be equipped with high survivability and enhanced striking capability.

"I cannot be specific about the details but new design solutions will significantly boost the fire control and communications components of the system," RIA Novosti quoted Yury Solomonov, general designer at the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology as saying.

According to the report, Russia's Strategic Missile Forces already have over 400 ICBMs, including 171 Topol (SS-25), 70 Topol-M (SS-27) and three RS-24 Yars missiles.
