MOSCOW (BNS): Russia has successfully test-fired a Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) from its Borey-class Vladimir Monomakh nuclear-powered submarine.

The Bulava missile was launched from a location off northwest Russia's White Sea and hit a designated target at the Kura test range on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, the Russian Defence Ministry said Wednesday, according to a RIA Novosti news report.

The Bulava (SS-NX-30) submarine-launched ballistic missile carries up to 10 MIRV warheads and has a range of over 8,000 kilometers (5,000 miles). The three-stage missile is specifically designed for deployment on Borey class nuclear submarines.
