Russia floats out latest stealth corvette


The Boiky is the third Steregushchy class (Project 20380) corvette.

MOSCOW (BNS): Russia's St. Petersburg's Severnaya Verf Shipyard recently floated out the third stealth corvette for the Russian Navy.

According to a news report in RIA Novosti, the Boiky is the third Steregushchy class (Project 20380) corvette designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau.

The corvette features innovative solutions regarding hull design, armament, communications and electronics.

The first corvette featuring stealth technology, the Steregushchy, was put into service in October 2008 and the second corvette, the Soobrazitelny, will be joining the Russian Navy in 2011.

Each corvette has a displacement of 2,000 metric tonnes, maximum speed of 27 knots, and a crew of 100.

The ship's weapons include SS-N-25 Switchblade anti-ship missiles, a 100-mm gun and a variety of air defence and anti-submarine systems, the report concluded.
