SAMARATE (BNS): Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland has received a contract from the Qatar armed forces to deliver three AW139 medium twin helicopters.

The contract, the amount of which was undisclosed, is an extension of a previous deal signed with the company in 2008 to provide 18 AW139 helicopters to the Qatar Emiri Air Force.

Some of the choppers have been delivered with the rest expected to be progressively delivered by early 2012.

The choppers were ordered to carry out a range of operations including utility, troop transport, search and rescue, border patrol, special forces operations, law enforcement and homeland security.

Under the latest deal, AgustaWestland will supply the medium sized twin-engine helicopters which will be used to perform emergency medical service (EMS) missions. The contract also includes comprehensive logistics support package.
