MUMBAI (PTI): Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) celebrated its National Technology Day on May 11th, marking 11th anniversary of Pokhran-II nuke test on a low-key.
Speaking on the occasion, Director of BARC Dr S Banerjee said that May 11 was a significant day in the history of India and it represented scientific contribution in hi-technology for country's development and pride.
He said both 1974 and 1998 nuke tests were conducted on Buddha Purnima day and this year Atomic Energy Commission met in Mumbai on that day (Saturday) at the newly renovated old yacht club in south Mumbai.
BARC also inaugurated an Experimental High Physics Laboratory involving creation of Microwave from flux compressive device at Kalyan in the neighbouring Thane district.
A B Mukherjee of the Reactor Group division presented his award winning technology on compact steam generator for indigenous Light Water Reactor which will be used for strategic purposes.
Madhangopal Krishna of Materials Science Division talked about how a new technology for Light Combat Aircraft was developed using 'shape Memory Effect' and has been already deployed in at least seven aircrafts for military purposes.
