SHILLONG (PTI): Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne on Monday stressed upon the importance of operations and infrastructure development in the north-east to increase accessibility in the region.
"Our entire focus must be on the operations as we are doing a capability enhancement across the board in terms of new inductions. I can assure you my support in achieving your long term objectives," he said.
Brown is on a three-day visit to the region and will visit bases at Guwahati, Tezpur, Chabua besides Shillong to oversee the planned infrastructure development of the IAF in the region.
Addressing an Air Force Commanders' conference here, he said, "Commanders should focus on supporting, supervising, counseling, mentoring and guiding those under their charge during training as well as in the units".
This visit to the region is the first of the Air Chief after he took charge on July 31, 2011.
Earlier in the day, Brown arrived at the Head Quarters of Eastern Air Command (EAC), Shillong, and was received by Air Marshal S Varthaman, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command and Mrs Shobha Varthaman, President AFWWA (Regional).
The IAF chief complimented the commands personnel's on their sustained air maintenance efforts in carrying out disaster relief operations during Sikkim earthquake and Odisha floods.
He also interacted with the Commanders of all the formations under EAC as well as the key appointments and principal staff officers of the Command.
