BEIJING (PTI): China Wednesday launched yet another "remote sensing" satellite "Yaogan XI", which will conduct scientific experiments and help in disaster prevention methods.

The satellite "Yaogan XI" was successfully launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the northwestern Gansu Province by Long March rocket, state media reported.

Two other satellites developed by local university were also launched on Wednesday, it said. Earlier "Yaogan X" was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern Shanxi Province on August 10.

It said to be the 130th mission of the Long March rocket series.

"The new satellite was intended for scientific experiments, land survey, crop yield assessment, and disaster prevention and reduction," the TV report said.

But US space agency NASA's spaceflight.com which carried a report on the Chinese satellite launch on Wednesday said western analysts believe this class of satellites is being used for reconnaissance and military purposes.
