SEATTLE (BNS): The US Navy has received the 15th P-8A Poseidon long-range maritime patrol aircraft from Boeing.
The aircraft, delivered on July 31, arrived at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida where joined the other Poseidon aircraft being used to train Navy crews in preparation for deployment.
A derivative of the next-generation 737-800, the P-8A is a long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft capable of broad-area, maritime and littoral operations.
Boeing is currently on contract to build and support 53 P-8A aircraft.
The US Navy plans to purchase 117 P-8As to replace its fleet of P-3C Orion aircraft.
