WASHINGTON (BNS): The Government of Australia has requested a possible sale of one C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) under the possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) programme.

The contract is estimated to be worth $300 million.

DSCA will also provide up to four Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 engines, one AN/AAQ-24V (13) Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) System, spare and repair parts and other related elements of logistics support.

Currently, Australia has a heavy airlift capability comprised of four C-17As. This additional C-17 will further improve Australia’s capability to rapidly deploy in support of global coalition operations.
