HELSINKI, FINLAND (BNS): The Finnish Navy has received four upgraded Rauma Class fast attack crafts (FACs) from the country's defence firm Patria.

The modernisation of the vessels -- Rauma, Raahe, Porvoo and Naantali -- began in 2010 and was completed at the end of 2013.

The total value of the project was around EUR 70 million.

The refurbishment has enhanced the lifespan of the FACs to last into the 2020s. The upgrades also include latest combat system to meet modern requirements, Patria, the prime contractor for the project, said.

Other subcontractors for the project included Saab AB, Western Shipyard Oy, Kongsberg Maritime AS, Furuno Finland Oy, Ab Marinel Oy, and Valmarine Oy.

The Rauma class FACs is operational in the Finnish Navy since the early 1990s.
