Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL) has received a contract worth around Rs 770 crore from the Defence Ministry to supply the Improved Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLR-I) to the Indian Army.

The LLLR(I) system has the capability of detecting and tracking fighter size targets, and mini/ micro drones. It has additional capability of prioritizing aerial targets.

The radar will enable the Army to successfully counter the threat of Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), the Defence Ministry said.

“Aligning with the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, the procurement is a significant step towards indigenization of Air Defence platforms with a boost to India’s Defence manufacturing ecosystem, including micro small & medium enterprises (MSMEs) and building a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive Defence Industry,” the Ministry said in a statement.
