Ukraine shows interest in Chandrayaan-II mission

NEW DELHI (PTI): Ukraine on Monday expressed interest in cooperating with India in its second unmanned moon mission - Chandrayaan-II.

"We are interested in cooperation by Ukrainian companies in the new space mission Chandrayaan-II," Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said here at a function jointly organised by industry bodies Assocham, Ficci and CII.

Chandrayaan-II, which is expected to be launched in September 2013, is a lunar landing mission, while the earlier one (Chandrayaan I) was only an orbiter.

People's Deputy of Ukraine, Anatoliy Kinakh, said that in Ukraine, "There is an advanced cosmic station which would help a lot for Chandrayaan-II."

There is a potential for cooperation in the field of construction of aircraft and ship building, he added.
