US's Telephonics Corporation to provide radars for India's P-8I aircraft

JERICHO, US (BNS): India’s P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft will be equipped with the APS-143C(V)3 Multi-Mode Radars provided by Telephonics Corporation of the US.

Boeing, which is developing eight P-8I Poseidons for the Indian Navy, has awarded a contract to Telephonics Corporation, a subsidiary of New York-based manufacturing firm Griffin Corporation, to supply the APS-143C(V)3 Multi-Mode Radar (MMR) for the patrol aircraft.

The contract includes systems for all the P-8I Aft Radar installations integration and support services, Telephonics Corporation announced on Monday.

“We are very pleased to have been selected for this important program”, Kevin McSweeney, President of the Radar Systems Division, said. “We are looking forward to supporting Boeing on this program and to further serving the Indian Defence Force on future programs.”

India had inked a $2.1 billion deal with Boeing in 2009 to buy eight P-8I planes.

The first of the aircraft is scheduled to be delivered to the Indian Navy in 2012.
