USAF satellite launch put off


WALLOPS ISLAND (BNS): The launch of a US Air Force satellite from a NASA launch centre on Tuesday evening has been put off by a day due to inclement weather.

The ORS-1 military satellite was scheduled to be launched from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia by a Minotaur I rocket at 8:28 pm EDT Tuesday (0028 GMT Wednesday).

The launch window for the tactical reconnaissance satellite has been set till July 10.

The next launch attempt will be made at 8:28 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

The Minotaur I rocket, carrying out its tenth mission since its debut in 2000, will release the ORS-1 satellite at about 400 kilometers above the Earth.

The ORS-1 has been designed to provide tactical surveillance and reconnaissance imagery directly to US troops on the battlefield.
