US looking for more defence sales

BANGALORE (PTI): US was looking at possibly more defence sales and strategic cooperation to further deepen its relationship with the country, American Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer said Tuesday.

Reiterating President Barack Obama's commitment to enhance its strategic relationship with India, paving the way for a two-way street, he said, US was also looking at more co operations and business opportunities in the field of infrastructure and developing airports.

Addressing reporters here on the eve of Aero India 2011, Roemer said US had brought to Bangalore "superior technology" at "the best price" for the show.

Gary Locke, US Secretary of Commerce, said "commerce is an important link in the relationship".

On defence related agreements, Timothy said signing of the defence foundational agreements, including Logistics Support Agreement, would mean "huge benefits would accrue to India."

He said if India were to sign such an agreement it would mean "even better technology going back and forth from US to India". However, he stressed, "This is your government decision; we are not pushing for it."
