BATUMI, GEORGIA (BNS): A US Navy warship has arrived in Georgia on Monday to take part in a joint naval drill with Georgian Navy, a media report said.

The guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) is underway in the Atlantic Ocean conducting training operations with the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group.

The warship is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser equipped with the Aegis combat system. It is one of the US warships being deployed in the Mediterranean as part of the Phased Adaptive Approach programme designed to shape the European segment of the US-led project to build a global missile defence network.

Philippine Sea is on a regularly scheduled deployment in the Black Sea and serves to promote peace and security in the US 6th Fleet area of responsibility.

The cruiser is expected to leave the Georgia's territorial waters on October 20, the news report said.
