US Navy awards Northrop Grumman submarine maintenance contract

VIRGINIA (BNS): AMSEC LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy for the maintenance, repair and modernisation of submarines homeported at the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

AMSEC LLC was awarded the five-year contract along with five other contractors. The value of the contract is $140.4 million which will given to all the contractors involved.

"AMSEC is proud to support Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard by playing a major role in maintaining the readiness of submarines in the Pacific," said Harris Leonard, vice president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding and president, AMSEC Operations, as reported in a news release by the Northrop Grumman.

According to the news release, the maximum value for each submarine maintenance contract is $23.4 million. The work is expected to be completed by December 2014.

Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard is Hawaii's regional maintenance centre for the U.S. Navy and was also involved in the submarine maintenance contracting activity.

AMSEC LLC provides its services in naval architecture and marine engineering, naval ship systems assessments, maintenance engineering, acquisition program development, shipyard industrial engineering, and complete logistics services to the US Navy and complete maritime industry.
