US, Malaysian naval vessels in Sri Lanka on goodwill visit

COLOMBO (PTI): Two naval ships from the US and Malaysia are in Sri Lanka on a goodwill visit aimed at consolidating military-to-military ties, the navy here announced Thursday.

The United States Naval Ship USS Ford (FFG-54) arrived at the southern port of Galle on Tuesday while the Royal Malaysian Naval Ship "Bunga Mas Enar" docked at the port of Colombo Wednesday, it said.

USS Ford, with 23 officers and 175 enlisted men on board, is a guided-missile frigate with a length of 136m, while Bunga Mas Ena is an auxiliary ship of the Royal Malaysian Navy and is here on logistics support, the Sri Lankan Navy said.

These two military vessels' visit here was preceded by the arrival of two South Korean naval ships in Colombo last week.
