US Army orders gunner kits for military vehicles

LONDON (BNS): BAE Systems has received a contract worth $11.4 million to provide 3,602 Gunner Protective Kits and 799 Gunner Shield Kits for M1151 and M1114 military vehicles for U S Army -TACOM.

The Gunner Protective Kits improve the protection of the gunner with taller armouring and transparent shields, offering enhanced visibility of the surrounding area.

The system includes a combination of steel, transparent armor windows and rear-view mirrors configured to provide protection against rifle fire and roadside bomb blasts. The weapon systems are mounted to the Gunner Shield Kit which provides the gunner with protection while firing the weapon.

The first delivery of the kits is expected in November 2012. Work for this contract will be performed at BAE Systems' facility in Fairfield, Ohio. To date, BAE Systems has provided 6,413 kits to the US Army.
