WARRENVILLE, ILLINOIS (BNS): US Army Tuesday awarded a $66 million worth vehicle delivery contract to Navistar Defense, LLC.
The contract was given by the US Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command for the delivery of 492 general troop transport vehicles, fuel tankers, water trucks and wreckers for use in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"In less than seven years, we have received nearly 30,000 vehicle orders with a majority of those being military commercial off the shelf vehicles," Archie Massicotte, president, Navistar Defense was quoted as saying in a company news report.
Navistar Defense provided 30,000 vehicles to the military in the last seven years.
The company will also provide buses. The units are additional orders placed under four existing Navistar contracts. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in December.
Bus production will occur at the company’s Tulsa, Oklahoma, assembly plant. The remaining vehicles will be produced at Navistar’s Garland, Texas, and West Point, Mississippi, facilities.
TACOM manages the Army's logistics. Navistar Defense is a unit of truck and engine maker Navistar International.
