LOS ANGELES (PTI): Call it an innovative way to generate publicity or just another hope to connect with our neighbours outside this planet, 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' makers are going to transmit the film into deep space today.

The film, which is releasing today, revolves around the story of an alien on earth. It would be world's first galactic motion picture release.

"The film will be zipping through space at 186,000 miles per second to a heretofore untapped possible consumer base orbiting the three star system, Alpha Centauri," Twentieth Century Fox release said.

It would take four years for the film to reach the star system Alpha Centauri after the transmission begins today by Deep Space Communications Network based at Cape Canaveral, US.

Alpha Centauri will therefore, receive the film only in 2012, due to the distance between our solar system and the Alpha Centauri system, it added.

"We look forward to sharing 'The Day the Earth stood Still' with our galactic neighbours near Alpha Centauri, and look forward to their feedback eight years from now," said Twentieth Century Fox Domestic Distribution President Bruce Snyder.

The film is a remake of the 1951 classic science fiction film "The Day the Earth stood Still" about an alien and his indestructible robot. 'Matrix' fame actor Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith and Kathy Bates starred in this science-fiction drama.

"We are thrilled about beaming this film into space. This will be our first full-length movie transmission. And what could be more relevant to send into Deep Space than a movie about the Earth's acceptance of visitors from outer space," said Jim Lewis, Managing Director, Deep Space Communications Network.
