MOSCOW (BNS): The Russian Navy will take delivery of ten new advanced search-and-rescue vessels by the end of 2013 strengthening its sea rescue capability.
Construction of the rescue ship - the Igor Belousov and rescue tugboat - Viktor Konetsky - is being completed, a Ria Novosti report said quoting the head of the Navy's search-and-rescue service, Capt. 1st Rank Damir Shaikhutdinov.
The Baltic Fleet will get four advanced rescue boats and the Blact Sea Fleet will commission three multipurpose rescue vessels while the Caspian Flotilla will receive an SB-45 resecue boat.
The Russian Navy currently operates the British-built Panther Plus and Tiger submersibles to rescue submarines and ships in distress.
