Tata Motors launches anti-mine vehicles for defence sector


NEW DELHI (PTI): Auto major Tata Motors today announced its foray into combat vehicles for the defence sector with the launch of an anti-mine vehicle.

"Our aim is to participate in the entire defenCe value chain. Besides consolidating our traditional supplies, going forward we will also participate in creating vehicles and equipment specific to the defence sector as also offer our expertise in upgrades and the life extension programme," Tata Motors Managing Director (India Operations) P M Telang told reporters here.

The company would also form appropriate partnerships and harness the capabilities of its subsidiaries and other Tata Group companies, he added.

Tata Motors, which has been a supplier to India's defence and paramilitary forces since 1958, would also offer the mine protected vehicle to paramilitary and police forces.

Tata Motors has the ability to mobilise adequate manufacturing capacity and will deploy its dealer and service network across the country for maintenance and service, according to the company.
