Sukhoi chief takes over as RAC-MiG DG

MOSCOW (BNS): Mikhail Aslanovich Pogosyan has been appointed Director General of RAC-MiG. Alexey Federov, President of JSC United Aircraft Corporation and Chairman of Board of Directors RAC-MiG announced his appointment at a general body meeting here on Thursday.

With this present appointment, Mikhail Pogosyan, who is also Director General Sukhoi and First Vice President for Programme Coordination with UAC will head the ‘Combat Aviation Directorate’.

Taking over the reins of the new job, Mikhail Pogosyan said that RAC-MiG would deliver aircraft to Russia’s Defence Ministry and foreign customers this year. “I have confidence that the Corporation's team will fulfill these tasks,” he said.

Talking of the dual responsibility, Mikhail Pogosyan said that the policy to integrate the potential of RAC-MiG and Sukhoi would greatly strengthen the country’s combat aircraft development. “We aim at the synergetic effect of infrastructure optimisation, expenditure cut back following common policies and improvement in after sales support,” Pogosyan said.

Born on April18, 1956, Mikhail Pogosyan graduated with honours from the aircraft-building faculty of Moscow Aviation Institute in 1979. He joined Moscow Engineering Plant named after Pavel Sukhoi (currently JSC Sukhoi Design Bureau) where he has worked ever since. In his career, he rose from an engineer-designer to the first Deputy General Designer (1992-1990), Chairman of Board of Directors (1995-1999) and Director General of JSC Sukhoi company (May 1999-July 2007).

Pogosyan has been awarded the Order of Honour, and to his credit has 11 patents and inventions, 14 research works. He is winner of the State Prize (1997) and the Government of Russia (1998), is Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Doctor of Technical Science (PhD) and, Head of Department at Moscow Aviation Institute.
