SHREVEPORT (AP/PTI): The space shuttle Discovery is stopped for the night at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana, as part of its cross-country flight to Florida.

The shuttle is being ferried atop a modified 747 aircraft, known as a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. Discovery landed from space September 11 in California.

A refuelling stop was made earlier on Sunday at the international airport in Amarillo, Texas, and the shuttle was greeted by dozens of well-wishers and space enthusiasts.

The shuttle will reach Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday.

Discovery landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California after completing a two-week, 9.17-million kilometer mission to the international space station.

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Florida is the home port to the shuttle, due to bad weather condition the landing was avoided on September 12 at the center.
