Snapshots of APJ Abdul Kalam's life at gallery inaugurated


Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Dr. A S Pillai, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace during the inauguration of the museum- 'Mission of Life'.

RAMESWARAM, TN (BNS): Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on Monday inaugurated the gallery 'Mission of Life' established on the first floor of his house in Rameswaram.

Dr. Kalam went around the museum established at his residence and viewed various awards and accolades he had won as a scientist, besides documents and his work as first citizen of the country.

Kalam said the Museum was the initiative of Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, BrahMos Aerospace and said it was set up in such a way as to attract tourists from all over the world.

"I was happy to go around the museum which has been set up during my lifetime... something which is very rare," he told reporters after the visit.

Many photos and awards are displayed for the benefit of young generation and it might inspire them to invent something new for the progress of the nation, he opined.

The new attraction in the holy town features childhood photos of Kalam, awards given in recognition of his invention and as the president of the nation, a model of Agni missile, the group photo of his school friends, other photos and some materials to attract the visitors.

Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai said that the photos displayed at the gallery would take the visitors into the school and college days of the former President.

Moreover, two guides who know three languages Tamil, Hindi and English, have to be engaged at the gallery to explain the life history and other details of the photos to the visitors, he added.

District Collector Arun Roy, District Sessions Court Judge Bala Sundara Kumar and other officials met the former President at his house.
