HYDERABAD (PTI): G Satheesh Reddy, scientific adviser to the Defence Minister, on Tuesday stressed on the need to promote highest standards of engineering education and practises in the country.
"It is a technology driven age....we have to be at the forefront of developments and promote highest standard of engineering education and practises," he said, after receiving the Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya award of the Institution of Engineers (India), Andhra Pradesh.
The award was presented during the institution's 48th Engineers Day celebrations, held in commemoration of 155th birth anniversary of Sir Visvesvaraya, a release said.
The institution said it was conferring the award on Satheesh in recognition of his pioneering contribution to aerospace engineering.
Satheesh, an eminent scientist and chief of the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), spearheads the design and development of advanced avionics systems for missiles and other defence applications.
"The award is a true tribute to the efforts of my entire avionics team," he said, adding that engineers and scientists are "engines of innovation".
"Every engineering field has its own importance and every brilliant individual has his own role to play. To succeed in a major mission or a programme, we need to build good teams.
Great scientists and engineers like Visvesvaraya, APJ Abdul Kalam and Vikram Sarabhai have taught us about the cooperative and team spirit which has had a significant impact on the science and technology roadmap of our nation," he said.
