LINKOPING, SWEDEN (BNS): Saab will develop a new avionic system, including new computers and displays, for the Swedish Armed Forces’ Gripen fighter aircraft.

The company has received an order worth over $56 million from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to provide the new system which will enter service by 2020, Saab said.

The new avionics system will enhance the Gripen’s capacity to handle large quantities of complex information with different security classification levels. The system will also make it possible to introduce new sensors that require altered system architecture, the company said.

Gripen is a multi-role fighter aircraft capable of carrying out a range of air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
