STOCKHOLM (BNS): South Korea's second batch of Class 214 diesel-electric submarines would be equipped with Swedish firm Saab group's naval ESM (Electronic Support Measures) systems.
Saab has entered into partnership with South Korean defence firm LIG Next1 for the localisation of its naval ESM system for the submarines.
As per a contract signed between the two companies, LIG Nex1 will localise parts of the Saab ESM system which will then be delivered to German shipbuilding company Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH which is building the vessels for South Korea.
The first batch of Class 214 submarines has also been fitted with the same signal intelligence systems, Saab said in a statement.
Greece, Portugal and South Africa are some of the other buyers of the ESM system, the company said.
