MOSCOW (BNS): The strategic command of Russia's space defence forces has received the second unit of S-400 Triumf missiles which will be deployed in the Moscow region, according to the defence ministry.
The missiles were delivered to the strategic command force Wednesday.
"The handover ceremony for the second S-400 will take place at the state firing range in Kapustin Yar from February 16-19," Defence Ministry spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik was quoted as saying by Ria Novosti.
The strategic space force command had only one unit of the S-400 air defence system to date. The missiles are based at Electrostal, near Moscow.
The new unit will consist of two regiments, each consisting of eight launch points, each with four missiles, the news agency said.
The S-400 has a maximum range of up to 400 km at an altitude of 40,000-50,000 meters. The system uses a range of missiles, optimized for engaging ballistic and cruise missiles and hypersonic vehicles, Drik said.
