MOSCOW (BNS): Russia will complete the final sea-trials of the Nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) Nerpa in late October before delivering it to India, a media report said.

"The submarine is going to sail off on Oct 30. Russian-Indian crew will work at sea for over two weeks. If no serious defects are revealed, we plan to deliver Nerpa no later than Nov 22, " according to Interfax report.

Nerpa was initially scheduled to be delivered in 2009, but its induction was delayed as it was hit by an accident in November 2008 while on factory trial sailing in the Sea of Japan/ East Sea.

The Russian nuclear-powered submarine Nerpa , which will be re-christened as INS Chakra, would become the first advanced nuclear submarine of the Indian Navy after its induction.
