MOSCOW (BNS): The regiment of Russia's Western military District will receive three anti-aircraft missiles with the latest generation of S-400 and anti-aircraft missile-gun complexes called ‘Pantsir-S’ with improved combat characteristics, a Sputnik report said.

As part of the rearmament programme of the Russian Army, the Western Military District will receive the latest generation of S-400 missile system in 2015, Colonel Oleg Kochetkov, was quoted as saying.

He said the anti-aircraft missile regiments have successfully passed training on the new equipment and performed complex firings at the Ashuluk firing range.

Kochetkov added that there are plans to equip the combat systems of the Baltic Fleet Marine with the Pantsir-S.

The S-400 Triumph is Russia's new generation anti- aircraft weapon system.

The missile is designed for highly effective protection against air strikes, strategic cruise, tactical and operational-tactical ballistic missiles and ballistic medium-range missiles in combat and electronic countermeasures.

The weapon system was adopted by the Russian Armed Forces in 2007.
