Russian cosmonauts prepare for spacewalk

The International Space Station.

MOSCOW (BNS): Two Russian cosmonauts will conduct a spacewalk on July 26 to integrate the new Rassvet (MIM-1) module into the International Space Station (ISS).

The two cosmonauts – Mikhail Korniyenko and Fyodor Yurchikhin – are presently in orbit as part of the Expedition 24 crew.

“Flight engineers of the ISS Expedition 24 Mikhail Korniyenko and Fyodor Yurchikhin half of the working day are engaged in studying documents and the cyclic graph of extravehicular activity (EVA),” Itar-Tass reported quoting the Mission Control Centre.

The duo will analyse the EVA on Tuesday and will ready the equipment and instruments for the ensuing spacewalk on Wednesday, the Mission Control Centre said.

The Expedition-24 crew was initially slated to carry out three spacewalks, two by NASA astronauts and one by Russian cosmonauts.

However, NASA has reported that only one spacewalk will be conducted by its astronauts Douglas Wheelock and Tracey Caldwell Dyson in August.
