MOSCOW (BNS): Russian Navy will be receiving three repaired and modernised submarines from JSC Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center in 2012.

"We have a quite eventful delivery campaign in this year. Two nuclear-powered submarines Verkhoturye and Novomoskovsk, and diesel electric submarine Kaluga will be delivered to the Navy by the year end," the shipyard's director general Vladimir Nikitin was quoted as saying by Interfax.

The shipyard is also planning to handover submarine INS Sindhurakshak to Indian Navy this year. The submarine is currently going through repair and modernisation, the news report said.

Project 667BDRM Delfin (known in NATO as Delta-IV) nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines are the key component of Russia's maritime nuclear deterrence force. Lead sub of the project SSBN Verkhoturye was laid down at Sevmash shipyard in Feb 1981 and joined Soviet Navy in Dec 1984.

Project 667BDRM K-407 Novomoskovsk was launched in Nov 1990 being the seventh and the last submarine in the series. Novomoskovsk arrived at Zvezdochka for interim overhaul and modernization in Nov 2008. As a result, her lifetime will be 10 years longer expiring in 2021, the report concluded.
