MOSCOW (BNS): The Russian Navy will receive 60 new surface ships and submarines under the state rearmament programme by 2020, said a top official of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
USC president Roman Trotsenko said the Russian Navy was actively ordering warships to reach the new level by 2020 and meet all present-day challenges.
Russian news agency ITAR-TASS report quoting Trotsenko said, the Navy has already contracted 'long' series of surface ships and submarines. He urged the shipbuilders to work hard to deliver the product in time.
Work on Project 636 diesel electric submarine is being carried out by Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard while six Project 885 Yasen nuclear-powered cruise missiles are being built by Sevmash shipyard and a series of corvettes by Amur Shipyard.
The report also quoting Valentin Pashin, Director General of Krylov Central Scientific & Research Institute said, the Navy will receive 23 new types of surface ships and submarines by 2020. The Defence Industry Development Federal Programme provides RUR 292 bln for that purpose, he added.
