Russian Air Force to mark 100th anniversary

ST PETERSBURG, RUSSIA (ITAR-TASS): To mark the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Russian Air Force, a land-based exhibition of combat aircraft will be held at the St Petersburg and the Baltimore airfield here.

On August 11, Su-34 multi-purpose bomber, the Su-27, MiG-29SMT and MiG-31 fighters, the Su-24 bomber, the MiG-25 reconnaissance plane, the An-12, An-26, An-30 and An-72 airlifters, and the Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters will be displayed in St Petersburg, the press service of the Western Military District said.

On August 18, these aircrafts will be exhibited in Voronezh. Apart from that, festivities at the Baltimore airfield will feature a paratrooper show and exhibition flights by the Russian Knights and Swifts aerobatic teams.

"Military airfields will be open for general public on these days. Entrance will be free," the press service noted.

The aircrafts that will be exhibited in St Petersburg and Voronezh will arrive from air bases in the Republic of Karelia, the Voronezh, Leningrad, Kursk, Smolensk, Murmansk, and Tver regions.

Festival events to mark the Air Force jubilee will be also held in Moscow. Moscow's Zhukovsky airfield will host a grandiose air parade on August 12.
