Russia will conduct large military exercises in 2010

MOSCOW (BNS): Russian Vostok military exercises which took place every two years will be conducted in a large scale at Siberia in 2010.

"Somewhat more military transport aviation" would be used in the course of the Vostok (East) 2010 exercise than was used during the Osen (Fall) 2009 exercise,” RIA Novosti quoted Lt. Gen. Viktor Kachalkin, commander of the 61st Air Army as saying.

According to Russian media, a top commander said, more military transport aviation will be involved in the exercises comparing to the previous ones.

Zapad 2009, Ladoga 2009 strategic exercises, Caucasus 2009, and 15 brigade-level and 161 battalion-level drills are some of the military exercises carried out by the forces.

In Vostok-2010 strategic exercises is the main event of the combat training. It will include units of Siberian and the Far Eastern military districts, the Air Force, Airborne troops and the Pacific Fleet.

In Vostok-2008 more than 8,000 troops took part. Russia conducts strategic command-and-staff exercises in every two years.
