Russia upgrades Soyuz spacecraft with new system ‘TsVM-101’

MOSCOW (BNS): Russia has onboard a new digital command and control systems on the Soyuz TMA-01M spacecraft to increase its payload capacity by 70 kg, a media report said.

"The new computer control system - TsVM-101- will be tested by Russian cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri before the schedule launch of the spacecraft to the International Space Station on October 8th, 2010," RIA Novosti quoted head of the Energia space corporation Vitaly Lopota as saying on Tuesday.

The new system will replace the old analog Argon-16, which was in service for almost 30 years.

The new series of Soyuz TMA-10M will also replace the existing Soyuz TMA series spacecraft.
