Russia to showcase latest missiles at DefExpo


NEW DELHI Mar (PTI): Russia's largest manufacturer of ammunition Tecmash is looking at setting up a production facility in India with local partners for 23mm-155 mm caliber ammunition.

Russia will also be displaying a diverse range of its short range ballistic missiles and anti-tank weapon systems at the four-day DefExpo being held in Goa from March 28.

Tecmash, Russia's largest manufacturer of ammunition, will hold talks with the Ministry of Defence at DefExpo about setting up joint production facilities with Indian partners, a statement by the Rostec State Corporation, an umbrella organisation of around 700 defence companies, said.

This will be specific to the joint development and production of 23 mm 155 mm caliber ammunition in India, it said.

The United Engine Corporation (UEC) will also present models of aircraft and naval engines during the exposition.

Rostec member company "Russian Helicopters" will also present the Mi-38 and Ka-226T.

Russian firm High Precision Systems intends to show at the exhibition 'arms complex' with a fire control system and guided weapons "Kornet-E" for equipment of armoured vehicles, a model of the anti-aircraft missile gun complex "Pantsir-S1", the layout of the portable anti-aircraft missile system 9K333 "Verba", model of the operational tactical missile complex "Iskander-E" and self-propelled anti-tank complex "Khrizantema-S".

At present, the "Verba" is entering into service with the Russian Army, and its first appearance internationally will take place at the Goa DefExpo.

It boasts enhanced combat capabilities, in comparison with its predecessors, including engagement of such small-size targets as cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

In addition, surface-to-air missiles "Sosna-R", the automated complex "Sosna" and "Palma" marine automated anti-aircraft artillery complex with a "Sosna-R" guided missile will also be displayed.

"It is expected that foreign specialists will pay special attention to notable items such as the T-90MS main battle tank, BMP-3 infantry combat vehicle, Kalashnikov assault rifles of the hundredth series, air defence systems such as S-400, Pantsir-S1 and Tor-M2KM (mounted on the Indian-made TATA chassis), Amur-1650 submarine, Project 11356 frigate, Project 11711E large landing ship, Project 21301 rescue vessel, and Project 12701 Alexandrite-E mine countermeasures ship," the statement said.

As many as 451 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements worth Rs 1.53 lakh crore were signed during the Defence Expo or DefExpo 2022 at Gandhinagar, a senior official said.
