MOSCOW (BNS): Russia on Wednesday test fired a new prototype intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Region.
Russia's Strategic Missile Forces test fired the missile at 10.15 a.m. (local time) from a mobile launcher, according to a Ria Novosti report.
The report quoting Defence Ministry spokesman Vadim Koval said, "The training round landed in the western region of the Kamchatka peninsula, hitting its target."
"The missile was built with maximum use of existing components with new elements and technologies developed during the production of fifth-generation missile systems, in order to shorten its development time," he was quoted as saying.
Reports said this was the second experimental launch of the new missile. The first launch of the missile conducted in September last year failed as the missile crashed about 10 kilometers away from the launch site.
