MOSCOW (BNS): Russia is ready to export Iskander tactical missile systems, a senior executive at state-controlled arms exporter Rosoboronexport said here on Wednesday.

According to a news report by RIA Novosti, Russia is having talks with foreign customers interested in buying Iskander missile systems.

"Rosoboronexport is marketing the Iskander, but no contracts have been signed yet," Deputy General Director Alexander Mikheyev was quoted as saying in the news report.

He added that customers abroad were showing interest in the missile system and that his company was in consultation with some of them.

The Iskander-E (SS-26 Stone) is a tactical surface-to-surface missile complex designed to deliver high-precision strikes at a variety of ground targets at a range of up to 280 kms (170 miles).

It carries a single warhead with a payload of 400 kg to comply with the limits laid down by the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR).

The missile has a launch weight of 3,800 kg and is deployed on a transporter erector launcher (TEL) vehicle that carries two missiles. The missiles incorporate stealth technology and feature variable flight trajectory.

The Iskander-E missile system has embodied the best scientific, technical and design achievements in the field of theater missile systems; in terms of its design and high combat effectiveness.
