Russia plans 14 space launches in 2011

MOSCOW (BNS): Russian space agency Roscosmos  plans to carry out  at least 14 space launches of various carrier rockets by the end of 2011,  media report said.

"About 14 launches will be carried out from the Plesetsk and Baikonur space centers," RIA Novosti quoted SF commander Lt. Gen. Oleg Ostapenko as saying.

Russia has also plans to launch additional three Glonass-M satellites by the end of this year to complete the Glonass satellite navigation grouping, it said.

Currently, 28 Glonass satellites are in orbit in which 23 of them operate as designated.

According to the report, to complete the Glonass grouping at least 24 satellites must be operational for the Glonass network to operate with global coverage.
