ULAN-UDE, RUSSIA (BNS): Russia has completed delivery of all Mi-171Sh military transport helicopters to Peru under a 2010 contract.

The second batch of three Mi-171Sh helicopters, produced by Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant (UUAP), a part of Russian Helicopters, was delivered to the Defence Ministry of Peru in September 2011.

The Peruvian Defence Ministry had signed a contract with Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport in July 2010 to supply six Mi-171SH transport helicopters.

The first batch of three Mi-171Shs was handed over to Peru in May 2011.

The contract also included two Mi-35P Hind E attack helicopters which were delivered in April this year.

The Peruvian military will use the transport helicopters to strengthen internal security, combating drug trafficking and extremist groups.

The multi-role Mi-171Sh rotorcraft is the military variant of Mi-171 helicopter.

The helicopters delivered under the present contract have been equipped with modern systems enhancing their combat performance, a number of avoidance means for major systems and crew, as well as radar and instrument equipment allowing operations in adverse weather, day and night.
